Sitting Man II

This painting sits within the spirit of New Figuration, where the human figure emerges through expressive colour and painterly gesture, balancing between figuration and abstraction. Rather than portraying a specific individual, the figure becomes a universal presence, inviting the viewer to project their own emotions, memories, and interpretations onto it. Human figures and emotional states frequently appear in my work. We live in a chaotic and uncertain world, constantly searching for meaning, connection, and a sense of place within it. I explore this search through abstraction, allowing the figure to become a space where internal experience and external reality intersect. The immediacy of acrylic paint is central to this process. Its quick-drying nature allows me to work rapidly and intuitively, responding to the movement of the body, the surface, and the unfolding image. Colour, gesture, and the materiality of paint become as important as the figure itself, carrying a sense of urgency and raw emotion.

New figuration refers to artistic tendencies in art that rejected the aesthetics of impersonal abstract art and updated various forms of return to the figure. While they assumed a human phenomenon, the human did not have to be physically present - a trace or sign was sufficient. It represents an internally urgent expression of moods and existential feelings.
